Rep. Kelly Chambers seeks additional funding in state operating budget proposal to bolster law enforcement, public safety
During debate on the state operating budget (Senate Bill 5187), Rep. Kelly Chambers, R-Puyallup. offered Amendment 551 to provide additional support for law enforcement and public safety in Washington state. The amendment included $126 million to provide $10K recruitment and retention bonuses to law enforcement officers (local police officers, Washington State Patrol, and Fish and Wildlife officers); $25 million to provide $90K to every law enforcement agency for the costs associated with body cameras; and $10 million to be transferred to the Washington Auto Theft Prevention Account. The Democratic majority rejected the amendment.
